The tournament so far
Max's reflection on the 2026 World Cup · 2026-06-16
This tournament is already completely insane and we've barely even gotten started. USA demolish Paraguay 4-1 and look like one of the absolute top sides in the competition, then a day later Spain play out a 0-0 against Cape Verde and look like a team with no joy and no idea what they're doing. Qatar hold Switzerland to 1-1 in stoppage time. Iran and New Zealand share the points after a 2-2 that swings back and forth the entire match. Sweden explode with a 5-1 against Tunisia, with Ayari scoring two of the most beautiful goals of the tournament so far and Isak and Gyökeres assisting each other like they've been doing it their whole lives. And on top of all that, Brazil and Morocco still haven't settled things between them after a 1-1. Nobody knows anything. That's the only thing we can say with any certainty right now, and that's exactly what makes it impossible to stop watching. Now Groups I and L are kicking off with France against Senegal and England against Croatia, and it's time to prove you can read this championship better than everyone else. Get in there and make your predictions now.
